“The images dance between the lines of comfort and discomfort, fashion and anti-commercialism, honesty and make believe. They’re often loud in colour, owing to Kleyn’s own South African roots and his homesickness, but then quiet in their composition. Deadpan, even. The longer I look at an image, the more I can feel the world slowing to a pause and its mundanity falling away, as if the photograph is revealing to me all of the life I wasn’t paying attention to before.”
